January 2026 Newsletter
Play It Forward is nearing its $10,000 goal, Chicago Teen Edition hits the stage in February, choirs prep for Solo & Ensemble, the jazz concert Blue wows audiences, Art in the Burg returns March 21, and FAB board positions are open!
A Note from FAB President Polly Schmidt
It's not too late to make a contribution to our Play It Forward Initiative that is raising funds for new instruments! FAB will match all contributions, dollar for dollar, for the first 10,000 dollars donated. No donation is too small — and all funds will be used to purchase much needed instruments for our band, choir and drama programs.
Scan the QR code on our social media, or drop off a check or cash at the high school office in an envelope marked, "FAB — Play it Forward." Thank you for your generosity!
— FAB President Polly Schmidt
Grants & Scholarships
So far, 33 donors have contributed to the Play It Forward campaign for just over $9,000 in funds raised. Can you help us get over the finish line to $10,000?
Nine students entered designs for the Play It Forward poster — the winning design was created by Sophia Lieven.

Vocal Music Program
The CHS Vocal Music students wrapped up the calendar year on a high note with strong performances at our annual winter concert, Comfort and Joy, along with several caroling appearances throughout the community. Students shared their music at the Senior Citizens Turkey Dinner, the Christmas Tree Lighting, Cedar Creek Settlement during Festive Fridays, Bethlehem Experience at Christ Church in Mequon, and a prelude to an MSO concert in the CPAC — wonderful opportunities to connect with our community through song during this festive time of the year!
As we look ahead, all choirs have begun selecting Solo and Ensemble repertoire in preparation for the festival on Saturday, March 14, hosted at Port Washington High School.
We are also excited to welcome Mr. Ben Brenckle, a student teacher from Concordia University–Mequon, to the Vocal Music Department. Mr. Brenckle will be with us through our Spring Concert on Tuesday, May 19.

Instrumental Music Program
The Cedarburg Jazz Band played at the Kapco Toy Drive, showcasing several holiday themed charts. Grafton's jazz band was also present, so students were able to listen to one another.
The Winter Concert for the concert and symphonic bands took place on December 16 in the CPAC. Several young contemporary composers were featured, along with the annual performance of Sleigh Ride and this year's marching band show.
On January 13, the jazz band performed their winter concert, Blue, in the CPAC. Anyway, an original composition by Brione Thomas, Brighton Griffin, Ben Ansell, Sam Hackett, Dani Werner and Archie Bloomquist, premiered as the introductory piece of the night. Other charts included: Blue Rondo a la Turk (Brubeck), Blue Feeling (Ellington), Blue Train (Coltrane), Blue Orleans (Hooper), Blue Monk (Monk), Cerulean Blue (Yasinitsky), Afro Blue (Santamaria), and Blue n Boogie (Gillespie/Paperelli).
Student musicians have been enjoying playing in pep band for home basketball games.
Upcoming endeavors include the spring concerts, Solo and Ensemble (March 14, Port Washington High School) and the 2026 marching band show reveal on Tuesday, April 7 at 7pm in the CPAC.
